90# Silicon Carbide
An industrial-grade silicon carbide (SiC ≥ 90%) supplied as grains, powders, and ready-to-press granules for refractories, taphole clay, and steelmaking.
90% silicon carbide is an industrial-grade SiC material with a silicon carbide content of at least 90%. With excellent hardness, thermal conductivity, thermal-shock resistance, and high-temperature stability, it is widely used in refractory castables, taphole clay, molten-iron runner materials, steelmaking, and foundry applications.

What it is
What 90% Silicon Carbide Is & Where It Is Used
90% silicon carbide refers to an industrial-grade silicon carbide material with a SiC content of approximately 90% or higher, the remainder being impurities such as free carbon (F.C.), silica (SiO₂), and iron oxide (Fe₂O₃). It is typically produced by high-temperature smelting of quartz sand and petroleum coke, followed by crushing and grading.
Depending on application it is supplied in various particle sizes — 0–1 mm, 0–5 mm, 0–10 mm, and fine powders such as 200 mesh, 1000 mesh, and 1200 mesh. Its balance of hardness, thermal conductivity, and cost makes it the workhorse grade for refractory and metallurgical use.
Applications
Applications

Tap Hole Clay
Core aggregate in anhydrous gunning mix for large and medium blast furnaces, raising slag-erosion and high-temperature strength.

Monolithics
Fills the matrix of castables and ramming mixes, improving thermal-shock stability and erosion resistance.

mortars
Used in refractory mortars to bond brick and shape linings in iron and steel routes.

FAQ
90% Silicon Carbide — FAQ
A ≥90% SiC industrial material for refractory castables, taphole clay, runner materials, steelmaking, and foundry — where hardness and thermal stability matter more than ultra-high purity.
0–1, 0–5, 0–10 mm grains, fine powders (200/1000/1200 mesh), and FEPA abrasive grades from F6 to F1200.
RTP granules flow and fill uniformly for direct pressing, raising molding efficiency without extra binders.
Yes — particle size distribution, RTP granules, submicron powders, sintering and temporary-binder systems, and OEM packaging are all customizable.
SGS, BV, and CCIC inspection are acceptable on request, with a documented data sheet.
90% SiC trades some purity for lower cost; it is the economical choice where extreme oxygen control is not required.
