The tundish well block is a refractory component used in the continuous casting of steel. It is installed in the outlet area of the tundish, where it supports and fixes the submerged entry nozzle or stopper nozzle assembly. The block holds the nozzle seat in position and forms the transition between the tundish lining and the nozzle.

Material & Manufacturing

The block is produced from high-purity high-alumina and magnesia-carbon refractory raw materials. In continuous casting practice, tundish well blocks are also produced from alumina-magnesia and alumina-magnesia-spinel compositions; in-spinel formation improves slag resistance and dimensional stability.
